You Don’t Have to go Abroad to Volunteer

Dentaid mobile caravan

As you know, Bridge2Aid and Dentaid work closely together to help people who are suffering the misery of untreated toothache.

While both charities are, unfortunately, unable to run overseas volunteering trips at this time, Dentaid has volunteering opportunities across the UK for people who want to help those in greatest need.

Dentaid utilises its mobile dental units to visit night shelters, soup kitchens and day centres with volunteers providing dental care for people experiencing homelessness.

They also run free dental clinics for;

  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • People affected by drug and alcohol misuse
  • Victims of domestic violence
  • Veterans from the armed services and fishing communities.

Working on the mobile dental units, volunteer Dentists and Dental Nurses work alongside Dentaid staff to offer;

  • Examinations
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Emergency treatments
  • Dental health advice

Dentaid welcome those that want to become a regular volunteer and those who may be able to just spend a day volunteering. Full training and briefings are always given before each clinic.

Many of Dentaid’s patients haven’t seen a dentist for several years and many will have been living with long term pain.

Volunteering with Dentaid means you can help relieve their pain, help them feel more confident and, in some cases, to start a new chapter in their lives.

In addition to our work in Yorkshire, Dentaid currently has volunteering opportunities along the south coast in;

  • Devon
  • Dorset
  • Wiltshire
  • Hampshire
  • West and East Sussex
  • Kent
  • Suffolk

New clinics are planned for Birmingham, London, Bristol and we have high hopes of adding other parts of the UK in the New Year.

If you would like to find out more about volunteering opportunities as a Dentist or Dental nurse, you can email UKclinics@dentaid.org and they would be delighted to hear from you.  All volunteers go through an application and onboarding process and our friends at Dentaid will be happy to answer any questions.

Happy volunteering!
