The second part of our Phase 2 programme, or Phase 2 Part B, has come to an end. Phase 2 Part A was a resounding success whereby 5 new healthcare workers completed our dental training programme. The 4 trainers – the District Dental Officers – were being trained themselves, as Bridge2Aid taught them how to teach.
Those same 4 DDOs took part in Phase 2 Part B in order to complete their training to become trainers. Another 281 patients were seen, and once again there was a 100% pass rate, with all 5 new healthcare workers reaching a skill level at which they will be able to perform emergency dental care independently, under supervision of the District Dental Officers (DDOs). The DDOs also passed with a 100% pass rate, and are now qualified trainers.
During the training we were fortunate to have the Regional Dental Officer of Mwanza, Dr. Ismael Sarumbo, go out to site with CEO Mark Topley on the penultimate day of training, and present the DDOs with their qualified trainer certificates. Whilst onsite, Mark recorded a vlog which you can watch here.
This is a very important step in relieving people from dental pain as it means we will now be able to go further, and thus reach more people, than ever before. As a team we’re incredibly excited about Phase 2 and can’t wait for the next programme to begin.
