A surprise reunion for 2 Bridge2Aid volunteers

September’s Dental Volunteer Programme had a little more in store than usual for one dentist and dental nurse, as Rachel Hunter explains:

“Rosemary and I first met way back in 1982 when she came to work for a short time as a dentist with what was then Borders Health Board in Scotland. I already worked as a dental nurse with another dentist but was looking for extra hours. We worked 2 days a week in clinics in Galashiels and Hawick. I was 20 and newly married, Rosemary a bit older than me and married too. She moved away after her husband who was also a dentist changed jobs and sadly we didn’t keep in touch at all.

31 years later we have finally – by complete chance – met up again! In July, upon receiving the list of volunteers in my DVP group, I was scanning down the names and Rosemary just jumped out at me so I emailed her to see if it was her. The rest is history as we finally met at Heathrow on 9th September en route to Tanzania. In the 31 years since we worked together I have had 4 children and she has 2 who are all grown up. I am even a Granny! I still find it hard to believe that our paths have crossed again, but I am really pleased that they did and hopefully we will volunteer together again in the not so distant future!”
