The rain didn’t deter 200 hardy walkers on Saturday June 7th, as they set out across the sands of Morecombe Bay to raise funds for our training programmes in East Africa.
The walkers braved heavy rain and winds as well as the challenges of the infamous sands as they waded thigh-deep through the tepid waters of Morecambe Bay. The walk was organised by Melanie Yates and the team at the Oasis Dental Care, Westmorland Practice on Stramongate in Kendal and led by Cedric Robinson, The Queen’s Guide to the Sands. The Oasis team, dressed as tooth fairies, led a colourful procession of walkers carrying pink and blue balloons and made a striking contrast to the grey skies and misty sands as they set out in high spirits from Kent bank bound for the far shore at Silverdale.
Melanie thanks everyone who joined her on Saturday and says she is overwhelmed by the number of people that showed their support. An incredible £6000 has been raised so far, which will go towards Melanie and Nurse Mandy’s trip to Tanzania to train Health Workers in emergency dental care with us next year.
